Safety and privacy on Lotokam
Sharing a car with somebody you have not met is a real decision, and it deserves a straight answer about what protects you.
Nobody gets your number by accident
Your contact detail is revealed only when both of you have tapped connect. Not when you are matched, not when somebody asks: only when you have both said yes.
This is enforced on the server, in one function, before the page is built. An unrevealed number is never put into the page at all, so there is nothing to dig out of the browser.
We never store where you actually live
The pin you drag is snapped to a grid roughly 500 metres across before it is written down. The exact coordinate is discarded on the way in, not hidden afterwards.
Matches are described relative to you, "0.8 km from your home", never by place name. So even a person you have connected with is told a distance, not an address.
Report and block, in two taps
If somebody makes you uncomfortable, report them. The pairing is deleted straight away and the two of you are never matched again, in either direction. You do not have to explain yourself: the reasons are taps, not a text box.
No money, no liability, no drama
Not one cent passes through Lotokam. There is no fare to argue about, no payment to chase and no account to compromise. If you choose to share petrol costs, that is a conversation between the two of you.
Sense, the ordinary kind
Meet in a public place the first time. Tell somebody at home or at work who you are travelling with and which way you are going. Trust your instinct on the first trip; if it is not right, do not take the second.
The strongest protection on this app is that the other person is your neighbour, going where you are going, every day. Nobody is passing through.
What we hold, and for how long
Two cookies, one to keep you signed in and one to remember your language. No analytics, no advertising identifiers and no third-party trackers, which is why there is no consent banner to click away.
Contact details are encrypted where they are stored. Dormant accounts are deleted automatically, and you can delete yours yourself at any moment. The full detail is in the privacy notice.
The privacy notice has the formal version of all of this.
